How to choose
the right service for your biz

Do you really need a website?

Not every business needs a website, per se. Before going into every Facebook group to find a webdesigner, or jumping into that wix wagon, you need to have a clear plan on what kind of business you have or will have.

It’s not obvious in the beginning. And I did posts in the past on how to start a blog, they aren’t the same for everyone. If the main goal of your website is writing a blog, then yes, you need a WordPress website. But I will talk about this later.

In this post I will show you all the types of web paths you can have it and then, you can choose what type works for you.

Some links in this post are affiliate links, if you click and buy from it, I’ll get a small tip. No extra for you. They are marked with an asterisk (*)

The Website

This page you are reading right now, it’s the most common of all types. It’s a website, made in WordPress, using a theme named Divi*.

Unlike Wix, Weebly, Squarespace, I have full control of it. What does that mean? It means, it’s my house, my rules. My website is not under terms & conditions and it can’t be deleted without notice.

It’s my choice to have ads. My choice, also,  to not have ads at all, never!

This website is self-hosted, which means I pay for the address and real estate. My host is Bluehost*, it used to be Siteground* but it turnout too expensive for me. My domain, the ritaviana.ca is on Namecheap* and I am writing this blog post on my website because I can.

That’s the versatility of a WordPress theme: it’s a blog, a website, a place to show my future clients my services, my storefront.

I have plugins for everything I need although I am against filling your WordPress website with plugins, I admit is an easy solution.

The Membership

When I started to work with coaches, I realized most of them had a very confused idea on what they need. And that’s fine, you don’t need to know it all.

Many are looking to create a group coaching membership but have no idea how to do this.

Luckily, there are great services out there for membership group coaching.

You can do it by a plugin on your wordpress website (it’s not pretty), or you can ditch the whole wordpress website concept and go straight to a membership service like Membervault, Buy me a coffee, or Patreon.

A membership service are there to solve the problems you have no idea how to solve. It has a place for your videos, you can receive payments, you can have a forum, you have customer service, you can gamify your membership. It’s all built in already.

The course

This is the next step to scale a business: creating and selling a course. If you are just starting and thinking on creating a course in a year, save money to a course platform, do not create a website.

Most course platforms today are all in one services, they have it all: the landing page, the sales page, the course library, the upselling, and so on.

You are aiming for an All-in-one. It will make your life so much easier.

Here are some:

Thinkific – from free to $399 a month

Kajabi – from $119 to $319 a month

Teachable – from $29 to $249 a month

Podia – from $39 to $79 a month

Some even have email marketing built-in, depending on how much you’re paying.

Instagram + link in the bio + email list combo

Web Designers will want my head for saying this. If you are just starting, and have NO IDEA what you want yet, don’t get a full website.

You only need a landing page to build your email list.

MailerLite*, ConvertKit* and SendFox, to name a few, have a landing page builder with their email list service.

You need a place to put your link on and an Instagram bio is the perfect place for it.

Campsite is a great link list service to add all the links you need for free.

The links you need on your link list:

 1. A link to the landing page of your email list
 2. A way to contact you

Use your Instagram account as a way to connect with your ideal customer and create a community until you figure out your business and decide which route you will go.

Just know

It doesn’t matter which route you take, you don’t need to do it all by yourself.
